APPOINTMENT OF PROJECT MANAGER

The Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Jack, who lives locally, as our new Project Development Manager. This post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for 2.5 years. Gary begins work with us on Monday 18th February and the Coffee Morning will be an opportunity for the community to meet him

Good News - Big Lottery Support!

Big Lottery Logo

On 12th December 2018 the Big Lottery Community Led Medium Fund awarded WLET a grant of £116,465. The award gives £50,000 of capital toward the building renovation – for our first ever kitchen, toilet refurbishment and upgrading of access to the building. The rest is revenue spending which will allow us to employ a project development manager part time for 2.5 years as well as employing an admin support assistant for 10 hours a week for 3 years!

Wester Loch Ewe Trust is enormously grateful to the Big Lottery for this grant and to the National Lottery players who made it possible!

Celebration of Community Ownership 8th December

On Saturday evening we held a very enjoyable gathering in Inverasdale School in celebration of community ownership! A significant milestone!

Thank you to all who came along to join us during that evening.

We toasted the school, thanked all who have been so supportive since we began working in 2012 to stage the weekend of Celebration of the School in the Community in June 2013, and enjoyed ourselves!

Wester Loch Ewe Trust is delighted to announce that, on behalf of the community, it took formal ownership of the Inverasdale School building and grounds on Thursday 29th November, 2018.

School

The road to ownership has been long and somewhat tortuous but we’ve reached our first milestone! Thanks to everyone who has supported our efforts over the last 6 years from the planning of the 2013 celebration of the School through to the present time.

A community celebration will take place in Inverasdale School next Saturday evening, 8th December from 7.30 pm. We hope to see you there!

November 2018 Update

2018 Memorial 1

As we have done for many years, we hosted a very well attended soup lunch after the Service of Remembrance held at the Russian Arctic Convoy memorial at Cove. It was a bitingly raw day and, as you can see from the pictures, everyone enjoyed the home-made soups, sandwiches and cakes!

Tearoom Closed Until Spring

TearoomAfter another very successful summer season, the Old Schoolhouse Tearoom is now closed until May 2019. The weekly ‘Drop In’ has moved to Wednesday afternoons for the winter.

Keep an eye on this website for further events.

August 2018 Update

We would like to thank everyone who attended our soup lunch on Wednesday 15th August. We raised an amazing £277 towards our renovation project! We’ve had a lot of positive feedback about the lunch so we hope to do another sometime. Quite a number of our lunchtime visitors stayed on for our afternoon opening and had tea and cakes.

May 2018 Update

On Friday 27th April WLET held a volunteers’ training session followed by a very enjoyable and sociable lunch. Our Project Development Manager, Catherine, delivered the training in a humorous and instructive manner. This included a fire drill so when the alarm rang the building was vacated as quickly and safely as possible! Thankfully, it was a beautiful afternoon and we enjoyed our time in the garden.

The volunteers have been sorting through artefacts and arranging displays for this season, opening on Wednesday 2nd May. This lovely piece was given last year by a local resident for our ‘Loch Ewe in the Past Exhibition’. Can anyone tell us what it is? She couldn’t!  ArtefactThere have been on-line searches carried out and suggestions made, but no one seems able to confirm what this is or what it was used for.
